Navy Week Information

More than 65 Sailors will arrive in Cincinnati, Ohio, to kick off the city’s second-ever Navy Week, Sept. 13-20, and first time since 2011.

Throughout the week, residents will have a unique opportunity to experience naval traditions and gain a deeper understanding of the Navy. Through community service projects, performances and educational events, Cincinnati Navy Week, the 10th stop on the Navy’s “Road Trip to 250” anniversary celebration, will showcase the modern fleet and the Sailors who keep it mission-ready.

Highlighting the importance of shipbuilding advancement and fleet readiness, hometown Sailors will join crews from Cincinnati’s namesake ship, USS Cincinnati (LCS 20) and local commands, Navy Reserve Center Cincinnati and Navy Talent Acquisition Group Ohio River Valley. The week will conclude with Sailors participating in Oktoberfest events alongside Naval displays and performances by Navy Band Great Lakes and the Navy Ceremonial Guard drill team.

“Having the chance to come back to Cincinnati and celebrate my hometown and be an ambassador for the Navy is a great way for my naval career to circle back to the beginning,” said Capt. Jeffrey Betz, Command Officer of the USS Richard M. McCool Jr. (LPD 29). He credits four friends from Walnut Hills High School who provided him the encouragement needed to “take the giant leap” in joining the Navy, and says, “my journey never would have started without their friendship.”

The senior executive, Rear Adm. Matthew T. Pottenburgh, Commander, Naval Service Training Command, will meet with civic, education, business and government leaders. Other participating units include U.S. Navy Band Great Lakes and U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard Drill Team.
