Naval Aircraft at Public Events

Our office handles all initial requests for aircraft at public events to determine if
the Navy can legally provide support.

To determine if your event is eligible you will need to follow the directions below and complete a Request for Military Aerial Support (DD Form 2535).

How to submit a request:

1. Fill out a DD Form 2535.

Download Request for Military Aerial Support (DD Form 2535)

Ink signatures required in:

Box 3d Event Site Certification, signed by an agent exercising authority for site use at requested location.

Box 25a President/Chairman, signed by the senior official (president, chairman, commander, etc.) of requesting organization.

If you are the authorizing authority for the site use and the senior official of the requesting organization, sign both 3d and 25a.

2. Send DD Form 2535 to local FAA FSDO

An FAA Flight Standards District Officer (FSDO) inspector must fill out section IV and sign box 19d. Search for your regional FSDO inspectors here.

Ink signatures required in:

Box 19d: FAA Coordinating Official, signed by the FSDO in the region of the requested flyover.

3. Scan and Send Form to Navy

Scan and send a .pdf of the form to aviationsupport@navy.mil .

Please specify whether it is an air-show, flyover or static display/fly-in request in the subject line.

4. Eligible/non-eligible status determination

Non-eligible event: if the event is deemed non-eligible we provide you with an explanation of the policy that prevents the Navy from fulfilling your request.

Eligible event: sent to the Navy Chief of Information (CHINFO) for authorization decision.

Please note that an eligible status does not a guarantee support. The request still needs to be authorized and the aviation units in your area may have operational obligations or previously scheduled events that could prevent support.

5. Authorization from CHINFO

We will notify you once a decision is made.

If given authorization you may begin contacting naval aviation units in your area directly to find a squadron that can fulfill the request.

This does not apply to request for Demo team(s) or flyovers. If a demo team selects your event for participation, a rep from that team will be in touch to coordinate logistics. If you are authorized a flyover NAVCO will connect you with the appropriate contact to begin coordination.

Squadrons will do everything they can to support your request but please keep in mind that operational obligations or previously scheduled events may prevent them from providing support.

6. Find aircraft

For Static Display support: Contact and coordination must be done by requestor.

We've created a table (below) to help in your search for aircraft that may be available to support your event. Contact the aviation coordinators listed in the table to find a unit that can support the request.

The Navy Office of Community Outreach does not own aircraft and cannot fulfill the actual request. We can only determine if an event is eligible and seek authorization. Coordination is handled directly between Navy aviation activities and event organizers.
